No scientist is complete without a research notebook. After all, science is all about creating and testing hypotheses, and that requires a lot of note taking and meticulous record keeping. From grade school to college, we’ve learned that science notebooks are essential to the scientific process. To be fair, no one has ever seen the bottom of a black hole so we don’t really know if they’re bottomless. What scientists have recorded in laboratory notebooks is that black holes pull in everything around them no matter how big or how small. They can pull in suns, stars, galaxies, you name it. They are lean, mean, space-eating machines.
5. They Make Time Slow Down
In essence, they have the ability to freeze in time because of gravitational time dilation, which is explained by Einstein’s theory of relativity. Basically, in a fight between black holes and time, black holes would be the reigning champions.
6. Black Holes Were Once Stars
Over the years there has been a remarkable lack of information about black holes. Most of the information recorded in lab notebooks and research papers have been pretty minimal compared to what we know about other aspects of space. However, scientist do know that black holes were once stars and that it takes very special circumstances for a dying star to turn into a black hole.
